In the article "Woman finds newborn left on sand at Hawaii beach" by Jennifer Sinco Kelleher and it was published by Associated Press.http://news.yahoo.com/woman-finds-newborn-left-sand-hawaii-beach-015934646.html This article is about a woman found a newborn baby by the beach at Honolulu.

In this article a mother was giving birth to a newborn on a beach at Honolulu and she abandoned the baby after giving her a live. According to the police this was taken place around 11 p.m. on sunday when a woman walk by she heard a few people screamed. By the time she got there it stopped and she heard another noise sounds like a baby crying. The baby girl was taken to the near by hospital and she was doing great. The Department of Human Service had asked the court to release a photo of the infant so the baby's family can identify it.

After reading this article i was quiet shacked and angry from this because who would abandoned their child at a beach especially a newborn. I believe this kind of people is cold blooded and they are not responsible for the thing they had done. what if no one found the baby in time she could be died and eaten by an wild animal.

The article "Serve or Fail" by Dave Eggers and it was published by The Writer's Response. In this article the author talks about how college students have a lot of time that was wasted on things that were not even important or meaningful. In other words Mr. Eggers suggested that college students should take some community service during their junior or senior year of college. He suggests that college students should volunteer a few hours a month by doing this students could earn an college credit if he or she earn enough hours. He also pointed out that students should required a number of hours for volunteering in order to gratitude.

After reading this article i believe that Mr Eggers have a good idea but I don't think i would favor it. Here is why his idea were good because students who are doing community service he or she could earn college credit and  at the same time they could get experience. But also there are people who doesnt have the time to do community service because a lot of students have a job and a family to take care of. After thats being said here is a question will he or she fail if he or she did not do community service?

In a new article "Lone Star College Stabbing: At least 14 wounded, suspect in custody" by Dylan Stableford and it was published by yahoo news .http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/lookout/lone-star-stabbing-184840929.html This article it talks about a stabbing at a community college down in Texas.

In this article a twenty one year old male was stabbing people and later he identify he a student at Lone Star College. According to the county sheriff Adrian Garcia the police received a call at around 11:12 am on Tuesday morning that there was a white male was on a loose stabbing people. During this incident there were four victims who were serious injured that was transported by helicopter and two were transported by ambulance. Meanwhile the rest of the people were treated with minor injuries also there were two of the victims refused any treatment. The college was on a lockdown and it sent out an alert telling everyone should find safety and do not come out of the classes room.

After reading this article its kind of scary how the banding of gun use still not stop the violence that people is trying it to do it on its kinds. And people would come up with different ways to kill and try to prove itself.  I believe that school should have more security to prevent things like this to happen again. For example they could put out a metal detector on every building.

In the article "Video Games Can Be Helpful to College Students" by Scott Carlson and it was published in a book called The Writer's Response. In this article the author is talking about how playing video games could improve the student's social lives while in college and have no effect on class work.

This article talks about researchers are conducting a research on students that are in college that how video games can have positive effects and it does not effect their studies. According to this research one out of five college students say playing video games could help them develop and improve their social live. About one third of the students said that they play their games while in class but it does not effect their performance.

After reading this article I thought it was interesting how playing video games could improve a person's social skills. And how college students having a lot of time playing their games instead of studying for their classes. I was thinking to myself how on earth are they doing so good in school while they spent most of their time on the computers.

In the article "A Required Course in Beating the Freshman Blues" by Rene Sanchez and it was published in a book called The Writer's Response. In this article the author talked about how college and universities are coming up with new programs or course to help students success and keep students from dropping out of college. 

This article talks about how colleges and universities are coming- up with new programs that could help the students become more successful while they’re on their first year in college and lower the drop out rate. Also it talks about how faculty members could help too. Some of the things the program provides are one; teach students the study skill on how to take note or study for an exam. Two; all freshmen are required to take the same courses that were lead by faculty and they will have a small group conversation. Sometime the faculty will have their students to set up meetings to see how they are doing. 

After reading this article I thought this would be good for the students especially for those who just enter the college life for the first time because it would give them some ideas how to handle their time and how to study for an exam. If I had another chance to repeat the first year I would took a course like this because i wasted a lot of my times.

In the article "Dear Dads: Save Your Sons" by Christopher N. Bacorn and it was published by the Newsweek. In this article the author talks about how the importance of having a father and having someone to look up to. This boy's father had left him and his mother four years ago and this had affected him and his mother a lot. The was not doing well in school, drinking a lot of alcohol, violence things like that. While for the mother, it was hard for her to take care of him because he doesn't listen to her and she even took him to see a professional counselor. But it didn't work out since the boy had given up on him-self and the counselor had given up as well. According to the author what every children need is a man who loves him, spending time with him and someone who is proud of him.

After reading this article I thought sad to this young boy is going through the things that he is going through and the mother couldn't even help. Being a father that means that he have a lot of responsibility for the family. Obviously this boy's father was not taking the responsibility he should be taking instead of throwing everything to the mother. One of the things that I agree what the author said how the fathers should be for example like taking the kids to a basketball game or reading to them and the main point is spend time with the children. I think this will have a lot of effects on children when they get older or even one day they are being a father and they would know what they need to do for their next generation.

The article "2nd winter storm in days blasts central U.S" by Bill Draper and it was published by Associated Press on Yahoo. In this article it talk about how this snow storm caused a lot a damages, problems and even deaths in the midwestern areas. Over than 100, 000 homes and business buildings were out of power and even hospital were closed do to this storm. According to this article the Department of Transportation has issued that tell people to stay in the house and off the roads unless there was an emergency. There was three people died do to the storm; one of the incident happened at the Interstate 70  and the other one was in the house. where the heavy snow cause the roof claps down. This was the 2nd biggest storm in less than a week. According to the scientist over at Pennsylvania State University the reason caused this big storm was there were too much warm moistures in the atmosphere and the cold air coming from the north and when the two combine it will produce heavy snow.

After reading this article I was kind of shacked on how much it snowed in those areas of the states during that week. It was unfortunate for those who lost their powers and for those who got stock on the roads. Also it was sad for those who lost their loved one's in the storm and hope they are okay. I hope for those who are still out there are driving safely and get home in one peace.

Blog # 4

In the news article Shooting spree across Calif county leaves 4 dead from the associated press on yahoo http://news.yahoo.com/shooting-spree-across-calif-county-leaves-4-dead-215222142.html by Gillian Flaccus. In this article a 20 year old college student shot a woman inside of his house and killed two others during the carjacking. Also as police were closing on him, he killed himself as well. The killer's name was Ali Syed and he is living with his parents and the woman that he killed was in her 20's. According to the police their was no relationship between the two of them also they don't know what she was doing at the house. The 2nd person he killed was a business man in his late 50's and his name was Edward Melvin. Syed forced him out of his car while at a stop sign. Then shot him three time in the back of the head and he took his car and drove away. Syed later fled to a Mirco Center where he shot a construction worker in his late 20's and his name was Jeremy Lewis; he also shot one of Jeremy's co-worker on the arm. As Syed fled the screen towards Orange country highway patrols was engaging on him and he killed himself.

After reading this article its kind of scary to see how people could do this to other human beings. Especially with the weapons that we have today. There is some crazy people out there and I think the government should do something about the gun issue. Some of the things they could do is don't allow anyone who is under the age of 30 to own a guns something like that. otherwise band gun use for civilians. 

Blog # 3 Student Success day

During Student Success Day one of the event I went to was called, "Souvenirs: Healing After War" by Mara Pelecis and Dave Berger. During this event we watched a film by Mara, while during the film it mention on some of the issues that her father and other veterans were dealing with once they came back from the war. Some of the issues were mental issues, suicide things like that. According to the film during the 1960's service members who came back from the Vietnam war some of them were mentally ill because of the things they saw and what they been through plus when they came home there was anybody to talk to and if they did have someone to talk to but they didn't really care. Mara's father was one of those people who had to deal with this type of issues because he was one of the veterans during the Vietnam War. This was very hard for their family especially her mom because they had to see him going through this and he was under mental treatments but unfortunately he left his loved ones.

After the session I thought it was sad for the veterans because after all the things they did for the country and try to protect its people but no-body was willing to listen to them and hear what they had to say. This is also hard for the family members too because its hard for them to see a loved one is going through such pain and they could do anything to help except taking them to treatment. Even though its hard for family member but getting their support is the best thing you could get. For example in Mara's situation her mom supported her dad all the way until he had passed away. Also i think the community should do something to help or even when you see a service member just go up to say thank you things like that.

The article i read was called Do Talk to Strangers by Sabrina Dubik http://thisibelieve.org/essay/11875/

In this article Sabrina talked about how she doesn't like to talk to customers at work besides taking their orders. However this would come change for Sabrina when she met this customer in her restaurant. He name was Don and he was in his eighties. Sabrina noticed that Don came in every-week and sat in her section whenever he was in. Sabrina and Don started talking and he told her stories how he and his wife went to the movies and had dinner together every saturday. About four months later Sabrina received a call from a hospital at Chicago saying that Don was internal bleeding and need a surgery.  So she drove to Chicago to see what can she do to help. According to Sabrina that Don told her that he wasn't feel too go so she gave him a number to one of the doctor's that she know. After this incident Sabrina and Don had become friends. After meeting Don Sabrina is not afraid to talk to strangers anymore. 

After reading this article one of the things i got out of this was a friendly approach can lead to a lifetime friendship. Another thing was you can be friends with anyone you like; it doesn't matter how old or young he/ she is. It was kind of cool how she doesn't like to talk to strangers but she stepped out of her box and started talking to this man that comes in and sat at her section every week. She ended up being friends with him and kind of saved his life. 

Blog # 1

In the article “I won’t Hire People Who Use Poor Grammar. Here’s Why.”  http://blogs.hbr.org/cs/2012/07/i_wont_hire_people_who_use_poo.html written by Kyle Wiens. According to Mr. Wiens when people who applies to his companies; he would have them take a grammar’s test to see if they qualified for the position or not. He stated that “grammar is credibility” and he also said “Grammar signifies more than just a person’s ability…’ I’ve found that people who make fewer mistakes on a grammar test also make fewer mistakes when they are doing something completely unrelated to writing." I can see how he is trying to comparing a person with good grammar are likely be  better at other things but this is not always true. He also think in-order for the people to get a good job you need to know your grammars or otherwise you will not get hired from any of the companies out there. 

After reading this article I disagree how Mr. Wiens throws the application into the trash if they fails a grammar test. I think this is not fair to the others because by taking a grammar test, it doesn't really prove how much you know about writing. Also we humans make mistakes everyday in our life but we learn from those mistakes.  Another thing i disagree is how he said "good grammar is good business sense." In my opinion i think that good business is having different people with different skills and not to see how good his or her grammars are. Good grammar might help advertising the company and good communication skills between workers. Now that's being said grammar is just a regular process of writing and it doesn't really show how much a person knows his or her work ethic to the company.

Hello everyone my name is Ming Mei and I'm 22 year old. I graduated from Henry Sibley High School back in 2010. This is my 3rd year in college and I'm currently going to nursing. Some of the colleges I attend were Mankato state, Metro State and now I ended back at up Inver Hills. I'm hopping to transfer to the U of M next fall and get into their nursing programe. Now you guys know a my education background; lets talk about my hobbies.

Some of the things I like to do are hanging out with friends, jogging/working out, laying on the coach relaxing and I love to travel to different places.
